Tired Drivers can lead to Fatalities

It is nothing new that any driver who is tired behind the wheel can be more apt to get into an accident with others or by themselves leading to death. Swinton Commercial, a business insurance company has issued a warning to bring about this point again. Given the high rate of fatalities recently in the United Kingdom there is even talk about putting up fatality signs again to get drivers to re-think driving dangerously such as driving when they are almost asleep. Businesses have to follow specific rules regarding how much time a driver can be on the road per week. They even have to keep logs, but they may not always stop when they are tired to rest before continuing for the day.

The reason this is important when talking about fleet insuranceis because the more claims a fleet has to turn in the more they have to spend on insurance. What makes it even worse is if there are too many claims by the insurance company standards because the company could then lose their coverage. A fleet company without insurance cannot operate. There is a potential of having the drivers insure themselves, but this can be extremely expensive since most businesses tend to get discounts on insurance for doing a group policy.

The insurance broker Swinton surveyed 1, 200 online customers. They found that 7 per cent of truck drivers have admitted to nodding off at the wheel for a few seconds while driving. This has happened at least once to them in the last five years. 21 per cent of drivers stated they do not take regular breaks even though there are guidelines they should be following. Truck drivers who require HGV insurancebecause they work for haulage companies have a legal requirement to stop at certain times and not work more than a certain amount of hours driving per day. These rules are in place to make the roads safer for all.

If you own a haulage company or a fleet of vans you may want to do a van insurance comparisonto see where you might save money. You may also want to do so in order to lower your monthly and yearly costs. By making sure your drivers follow the rules you can also see less claims which means better things for you in the future with reduced rates on insurance and the like.
